Job Title: Junior Paralegal (I)

Department: Legal

Reports to: Supervising Attorney

Schedule: Full-Time

Pay: Salary ($55,000 – $75,000)

Job Summary

Under the supervision of attorneys, assists attorneys by performing substantive legal work, providing essential support in case management, basic research, and document preparation to facilitate efficient legal services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support
    • Manage calendars, track deadlines, schedule appointments
    • Manage records retention, including information storage and retrieval.
    • Manage all printed reference materials and subscriptions.
  • Communication
    • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss assigned case details or projects.
    • Review and respond to email communications
  • Business Development
    • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Financial
    • Maintain proper billing records for client services provided.
  • Interaction with Court
    • File legal documents with various state courts and arbitration agencies.
  • Organization
    • Organize and manage discovery, including working with clients to complete discovery.
    • Organize and maintain case documents in paper and electronic filing systems.
    • Organize and collect medical records/billing.
  • Research
    • Investigate basic facts and case law.
    • Search public records and other legal resources.
  • Writing
    • Prepare routine documents including, but not limited to:
      • Pleadings
      • Motion Papers
      • Briefs
      • Demand Letters
      • Discovery Requests and Responses
      • Legal Correspondence
      • Other Documents for Attorneys as Requested
  • Case Preparation
    • Assist with trial preparation.
    • Summarize deposition and trial transcripts and exhibits.
    • Direct and coordinate service of process.
    • Assist with exhibit preparation.
    • Assist with presentation of exhibits at trial.
    • Prepare materials for hearings, depositions, and trials
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with some or all of the following software including, but not limited to, MS 365, Google Workspace, Adobe, and Case Management System.
  • Familiar with legal terminology.
  • Bilingual, Spoken Spanish fluency.
  • A strong desire to expand one’s scope of knowledge and professional competencies.

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree or higher from an accredited college in a legal-related field or equivalent
  • Current paralegal certificate or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Some law firm or legal experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
